Give your metabolism a boost to burn more calories

3664132364_61ff005833_nSometimes you can feel like no matter what you do, nothing seems to be changing your weight when you jump on the scales each morning. You’ve given up chocolate, wine, beer, fast food … you’re exercising 3-4 times per week … you’re not sipping meals and eating breakfast before heading out to work.

Basically, you’ve hit a plateau.

But help could be at hand. A survey conducted on a small group of men and women proved that just 2.5 minutes of interval style exercise first thing in the morning, could burn up to an additional 200 calories throughout the day.

Wow! 200 calories in just 2.5 minutes! And of course, if you double that effort, you could see up to 400 extra calories being burnt each day.

Now this really shouldn’t come as a big surprise if you’ve been following our blog or joined our Tabata fitness community, because of course we’re talking about interval training.

But this isn’t about doing our 4 minute class, although they are a great way to kick start your metabolism each morning, but about thinking outside the box. If your regular gym work and running club aren’t helping shed those last few pounds, you probably need to introduce an extra element to the mix. You see, your body can get used to the same activity each week so starts to find it easier and easier to do – even if your head doesn’t think so!

So no more excuses. Every morning when you wake up before heading to the shower, try one of these exercise for a minimum of 2.5 minutes and notice the change that will occur within just a couple of weeks.

1. Tabata class

Tabata has become increasingly popular due to the intensity of which you workout, for a small amount of time to achieve results. The perfect workout for a busy person.

We offer online classes which consist of x8 20 second exercises with a 10 second break between each one, totalling 4 minute workouts. Perfect for doing first thing in the morning at home or when on the move. The idea is to give 100% to each 20 second session to get your heart rate high to burn fat faster.

2. Jumping jacks

Get the heart rate pumping with a solid 2.5 minutes of jumping jacks each morning, no equipment needed nor a lot of space. There really is no excuse not to fit these into your day.

3. Burpees

This killer move will definitely burn calories fast. Fit as many as you can into 2.5 minutes and you’ll feel it the next day. But it’s all about burning calories fast – so push through the pain. It’s only 150 seconds after all!

4. Stair / Step running

If you have stairs in your house, try running up and down them for a solid 2.5 minutes. Fancy some fresh air, how about trying to find steps nearby and setting yourself a ‘Rocky’ challenge! Oh and if you work in an office, quit using the lift. Take the stairs and continue working out throughout your day. Little changes can make a big difference.

5. Lunges.

These fab exercises work your abs, gluts, hamstrings and quads. So what are you waiting for – 2.5 minutes (minimum) of a selection of lunges each day and not only will you see the weight dropping, you’ll see your body toning in no time too.

So you see it doesn’t have to be a chore to work out. Just 2.5 minutes each morning will kick the metabolism into action to help burn more calories throughout the day.
