The benefits of a home workout

Well to be perfectly honest, they’re both as good as each other. Sorry, as I know that’s probably not the answer you were hoping for! Of course we all want to be given a definitive direction of what we should be doing to get the best results in the quickest amount of time, but it’s not that simple. What works for one person, may not work for another.

It very much depends on what type of exerciser you are. For example, if you absolutely hate working out with other people, then joining a class is definitely not for you, and therefore you won’t get the results you’re looking for. However if you need the discipline of working out at a set time each week, then classes are great – if you don’t arrive on time, you don’t get in.

But we think there’s always a place for home workouts, regardless of whether you’re an avid gym goer or not.

Why?

Well rather than just give one reason, below are five benefits to working out at home:

1. Variety.

Okay, so if you join a gym you’ll likely have the choice of classes and equipment, but you’re still within the remit of your instructor, or the equipment they provide.

Working out at home allows you to mix it up as much as you want. Why not change your schedule each day – Tabata sessions, followed by core workouts, followed by some salsa. Whatever your heart desires, you can have when working out at home.

2. Flexibility

No need to stick to any rigid schedules here. If you want to workout at 5am, go for it! If you have 30 minutes in the middle of the afternoon between meetings, picking up the kids, heading to the hairdressers, throw on your trackies and you’re away!

Knowing that you can workout when you like, gives you such an incentive to just do it. Whether you have 5 minutes for a quick Tabata session, or an hour to spare for a full body workout, exercising at home gives you complete flexibility.

3. Cheaper.

Without a doubt, working out at home is cheaper than paying monthly membership charges. Of course there may be some costs depending on how you want to workout when at home, but often these are minimal, or one-off payments.

Certainly money should not be the issue when deciding whether or not to workout. You can workout for free at home with no equipment needed to stay in shape. So what are you waiting for?

4. Focus.

That’s right – no one looking at you, or perhaps more importantly, no-one for you to look at! Simply get on with the task at hand without any embarrassment, nerves, or ego.

5. Enjoyment.

Last but not least is the enjoyment factor. Many people head to the gym because they’ve paid their monthly subscription so don’t want to feel like their wasting money. But they don’t really enjoy it. So what happens is that person will attend less and less, until the membership comes up for renewal, and they don’t bother.

Working out at home enables you to choose the exercise routine that you enjoy doing. Yoga, salsa, circuits, HIIT … if you enjoy what you’re doing, you’re ten times more likely to stick with it. And when you start seeing results, you’re twenty times more likely.

So no more excuses. There’s no need to head to the gym to workout, not unless you want to of course! Clear some space in your living room, or throw on a sweatshirt and head out into the garden and start your home fitness routine today.
